 Warm and dry conditions
Cereus peruvianus prefers warm, dry climates and well-draining soil. It does not tolerate freezing temperatures, so protect it from frost and bring it indoors when necessary.

If your cutting does not have roots
Plant it upright in dry, well-draining cactus soil. Do not soak the soil while the cutting is still rootless, as too much moisture can cause it to rot. Once roots appear through the bottom of the pot—or the cutting feels firmly anchored—you can begin watering it normally.

If your cutting already has roots
Plant it and water it thoroughly. After that, allow both the soil and cactus to dry before watering again. Never leave it sitting in constantly wet soil.

Waiting to plant it?
An unrooted cutting can remain out of soil and without water for weeks or even months while waiting for roots. Keep it somewhere dry, warm, and protected from freezing temperatures. It may become slightly dehydrated during this time, but that is normal.
